History and Vision
In 1953, Charlie opened his gun range to the residents of Williamson County and the general public. Charlie envisioned a place where anyone could come and enjoy target shooting in a safe and comfortable environment.
Over a half century later, his vision lives on in Williamson County and is still regarded as Williamson County’s Oldest Active Gun Range.
Charlie’s contributions to the pistol world will not be forgotten. He was instrumental in the evolution of the National Muzzel Loading Rifle Association, its vision and direction where he was aand is a Hall of Fame member and is listed as the NMLRA’s 1st Distinguished Master.
The range’s tradition has remained in the hands of family members since its inception. This out door range is situated in the rolling hills of Tennessee, south of Franklin, off US 431 at 2795 Owl Hollow Road / Franklin, TN 37064.
Charlie Haffner Sr. passed away on July 28, 2004.
Range Details
CHMR has 4 distinct range configurations.
1. Main Range Lanes
The CHMR main range offers multiple lanes at varying distances.
Distances are:
9 yrds (27 ft)
25 yrds (75 ft)
50 yrds (150 ft)
100 yrds (300 ft)
2. Pistol Pit
CHMR offers a pistol shooting pit for draw practice and close shooting distances. No center fire rifles are permitted in the pistol pit.
3. Clay/Shotgun Range
CHMR offers a single Shotgun range on first come first serve basis. Clay throwers are available on site. Members pay $10 to use our electronic throwers.
4. Private Range
CHMR offers a small private range for Firearms training. It can accommodate up to 25 yard shooting. Please contact us for more details on this range’s times availability.
Restrooms and other misc.
At this time, the range provides an enclosed portable toilet such as you see at outdoor events. You will need to rely on your self for any food and beverages, including water. No alcohol is permitted on the premises. Bring your own staple gun to attach your target to the provided wooden stands. All Members and Guests are responsiblefor providing their own staple gun and staples to attach targets to our frames. Push pins are not allowed.
We are a slow fire range. No mag dumps, double taps or rapid fire on the main line. Controlled sustained fire is allowed. We want your sights on the target with every shot.
Mag dumps, double taps and rapid fire is only allowed in the pistol pit. All holster work must be done in the pistol pit and not on the main line. If you want to work on your draw…that’s fine! Just do it in the pistol pit.
Shotguns ARE NOT ALLOWED to be shot at targets posted to our target frames unless you are shooting slugs. All buckshot must be shot into the BERM.
WHEN YOU POST TARGETS ON OUR TARGET FRAMES, DO NOT STAPLE ANY PART OF YOUR TARGET TO THE ORANGE FRAME. KEEP YOUR TARGETS ON THE CARDBOARD
6 RULES TO REMEMBER
1. CHECK IN AT THE RANGE OFFICE UPON ARRIVAL.
2. GUN BARRELS POINTED DOWN RANGE AT ALL TIMES.
3. NO HANDLING FIREARMS DURING A CLEAR.
4. POST YOUR TARGETS ON THE CARDBOARD, DO NOT COVER ANY OF THE ORANGE WOODEN TARGET FRAME.
5. NO MAG DUMPS, DOUBLE TAPS OR RAPID FIRE ON THE MAIN FIRING LINE.
6. CLEAN UP YOUR SHOOTING AREA BEFORE YOU LEAVE. PULL YOUR POSTED TARGETS, THROW YOUR TRASH AWAY, CHAIRS BACK ON THE REAR BENCH, RETURN SHOOTING BLOCKS AND SPOTTING SCOPES, CLEAN UP YOUR EMPTY SHELL CASINGS. LEAVE YOUR SHOOTING AREA CLEANER THAN YOU FOUND IT.
